Eric
insisted we go inside the Panathinaiko Stadium and we're glad we
did! It was too cool.
This stadium was created on the ruins of the original one dating to 329
BC. It was excavated
and remodeled for the 1870 and 1875 Olympic Games. This stadium
also hosted the
archery
events for the 2004 Olympics held in Greece.
At first we were going to be like all the other tourists and take
pictures from outside of the stadium and call it quits.
Eric and Jennifer had visited Olympic
Stadiums all over the world, so they bought us tickets and in we went. This stadium is special because it is
constructed entirely of marble.
The places of honor were marble thrones and surprisingly comfortable.
There was a nifty tunnel for the athletes to enter the
stadium.
Chip...is that one working yet (his third!)
Eric demonstrated his collegiate sprinting abilities.
We had the entire stadium almost to ourselves...how cool
is that??
There were dogs lounging around the whole
city.
